Hi, I'm Chrissy!I'm an accountant & a yoga teacher...
Yup, you read that right! I’m a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) which means I spend my days finding balance in spreadsheets and budget meetings. That’s how I flex my left brain…
But outside my wee grey cubicle, I find balance in a totally different way as a registered yoga & meditation instructor!
I’m complex, just like you!! I love to unplug and head out into nature for days at a time, live music speaks to my soul, I adore exploring new places and meeting new people, the ocean is constantly calling my name, and you can always count me in for Taco Tuesday!
But, back to the cubicle… It was actually my experience IN my cubicle that led me to find balance in my life, and I don’t mean eating dinner in your car while driving from one obligation to another while navigating rush hour traffic. It’s so easy to get swept up in the pressures of life… juggling career, friends, family… make sure to eat healthy, and get to the gym… always prioritize self-care, but don’t be selfish… The pressure that society puts on us, coupled with the pressure we put on ourselves, has us stressed out to the point where we’re suffering from depression, anxiety, isolation, and frustration that’s beyond suffocating!
I can attest to this… I was right there with you! (still am somedays, if I’m honest!)
But it doesn’t have to be this way…
I still remember my very first yoga practice: I had just started a new job and some of my new coworkers invited me to join them at a class they attended twice a week on their lunch breaks. Not really knowing what yoga was, but incapable of saying no to anyone and wanting to look like a team player, I borrowed a yoga mat from my mother-in-law and figured I’d give it a shot.
From the first moment I stepped into that little makeshift studio/unused meeting room, I was hooked. The smell of sage, the prayer flags and meditation cushions, the sunshine coming in the windows, and the way everyone’s shoulders relaxed as you walked through the door.
Yoga spoke to my soul.
I’m sure it was the first time in my life I actually slowed down and listened to my breath.
On our mats we balance both mental & physical health with strength & grace, courage & compassion; making space to find your way back to you, become cozy in your authenticity, and become empowered, realizing that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to!
Through practicing yoga and meditation, I’ve begun to tap into that magical way of bringing that feeling you get on the mat into your life, and it lights me up to be able to share that with my students, both as their teacher and fellow life-long student.
My practice has helped me increase my capacity for compassion, helped me cultivate focus, and (possibly the #1 benefit) reduce stress in my life.
Every journey begins with a single step… I’d love to hear from you and help you take that first step to welcoming the benefits of a yoga and meditation practice into your life!
